Material Girl by Madonna was released on January 30th 1985 by Sire records. At the beginning we are shown two men watching her performing on a cinema screen, criticising how big of a star she is. This shows the aspect of men looking at women, and looking at their bodies, like she is something to be looked upon. Again, we see another man looking in on a woman, who is on the phone- the colours show alot of pink and red, conotating love and maybe danger. The connotation of danger could be used in these scene, as the man has obviously been let down by the female, showing his pain. When it opens out onto Madonna performing the song, The pink and red again plays a big part part again, she is acting flirty and feminine, with a group of men surrounding her, and playing along with her flirtiness. She plays along with each of these men for their 'material possesions' which shows the danger as she goes along of hurting them, as she goes from one man to another (red connotations.) At the end, showing Madonna in white and with white flowers, shows although she likes her material possesions, deep down the simpler things make her most happiest and content (White - pure, real.) The whole image for the video was taken from Marilyn Monroe's performance in 'Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend'.
